Courage

Will always cost you more then you intended it

too and although that is not its purpose it is almost always its result. If everyone knew what a certain action would cost them they could weigh the pros and cons and make an informed decision but that is not the case. Real courage as we know it is doing the right thing without knowing the consequences. It is always called upon in a time of great need and will not usually give you time for an informed decesion. Many of the things that have shaped history were actions performed in the name of courage. I would fear a world where people "considered" if we should engage the Nazis if the world at that time considered what they had in the way of technology and organization instead of what was right this world would be a very different place. Culture will change, technology will change courage will never change and will always be needed. Once you have done something courageous I would like to say that it gets easier but I am afraid that it does not. You will however be better prepared for the next time courage is needed. Know that GOD is always with you and that this test more then most will show the strength of your heart. There are few things in this world that inspire more people then courage but know there are dangers with basing a life around courage. If you focus too much on courage it tends to make your heart grow hard in order to avoid feeling pain you avoid feeling everything. Courage is a righteous attribute but many a great man have walked down the road of courage and never come back. My advice to you son is to know where your courage is when you must call upon it but do not get lost in the land of heroes that is a place for fictional characters and not a real man.

Letters to my son

Wisdom is a dying commodity in our day in age and as time marches forward I have found this to be increasingly true. The wisdom passed on from generation to generation seems to be limited by word of mouth and that is sparse at best. I didn’t want to make the same mistake; I know that if I waited till you were of age there would be a great many things I would miss. I figured if I took the time to write things as I saw them they would be of more value in that I have taken the time to go over them instead of mentioning them in passing as things come up. I have a great respect for your grandfather and have learned countless things from him, it is my intention to be a father you can respect only time will tell if I measure up to this lofty goal. I have started this at the age of 28 and wisdom comes with age so I am sure as the journals continues to grow the observations will make more sense and they will probably be shorter as well. However you are almost 2 now and there is far too much precious human life wasted in waiting so I figured I would start now rather then having the intention too and never following through. This is not meant to be a manual to life most CHRISTian men and women would say that would be the Bible and in many regards they are right however GOD has given us guidelines and instructions but it is not a step by step guide. What I mean by that is that you can handle everything in life with the knowledge given to you by the Bible and seeking GOD for answers but he wants you to figure out some things on your own. There will be no particular order to this journal as there is no particular order to life. Things don't happen the way you expected them to and other things will come up when least expected.

Fireproof was pretty amazing

I would recommend everyone going to see it, with that said keep in mind that it is definitely a religious based movie. Definitely good for marriages that are good and marriages struggling that and supporting a group of people trying to make good movies with a meaning behind them. It is so hard to see a movie without all the junk in it and when you do there isn’t much of a point to it.

What we say and how we say it

The old adage “if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything at all” seem to have been misunderstand to mean don’t say anything. I am the kind of person that tries to not say anything bad about anyone. The problem with that is I am not saying enough positive things to people and if I really wanna make a difference this would make a good first step. We may come through trying times but the one thing that stays constant is us and our image how we choose to represent ourselves. I enjoy growing learning and laughing with my friends. I seem to feel especially close to those that come Tuesday nights being able to study the Bible and talk about what we are going through has been really cool. We must learn to combat our do-nothingness together.

In the book I am reading the author describes his experiences in India one of them being his work with a leper colony. "I learned from the lepers that leprosy is a disease of numbness. The contagion numbs, the skin, and the nerves can no longer feel as the body wastes away. In fact, the way it was detected was by rubbing a feather across the skin, and if the person could not feel it, they were diagnosed with the illness. To treat it, we would dig out or dissect the scarred tissue until the person could feel again. As I left Calcutta, it occurred to me that I was returning to a land of lepers, a land of people who had forgotten how to feel, to laugh, to cry, a land haunted by numbness. Could we learn to feel again?", [The Irresistible Revolution]

FW: A Frosty Reflection

I was up late last night got a drink of ice cold water in a short glass cup. It was nice and cold the kind that has what appears to be smoke coming off it. I was looking out the window kinda since the blinds where closed and I was too lazy to move them more then once. And I stared at the cup, frosty reflection staring back at me. I always thought condensation was cool I never compared it to how I feel though. Condensation happens when the object has a lack of heat (cold) and warmer moist air hits it. The water in the air looses energy to the cup and no longer has the energy to stay in the air thus getting stuck to the cup. There are times where I feel like that cold glass and all the stuff in life just hits me and gets stuck. I am glad that I have my wife to talk things through with otherwise I would just be sitting there chilling (pun intended).

Insignificance and hair

I ran my hand through my hair and felt something on my hand when I looked I realized it was a hair I blew it off and watched it float to the ground. That made me think of a verse. Matthew 10:30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. I sometimes struggle with feeling insignificant but this verse helps to remind me that I am not insignificant to GOD. Some experts believe daily hair loss of between 50 and 100 hairs can be considered normal, while others say up to 200 hairs are lost from the average human body per day. So that reminds me that GOD is keeping a constant watch on our everyday activities no matter how small they may seem. That hair that fell to the ground has a story all its own even though some will consider it insignificant that could represent the mundane decisions we make everyday that might have a lasting impact. Take some time to find the extraordinary in the ordinary

Irresistible Revolution

A few things that have already hit me just in the Authors note

"There are a lot of people speaking the truth with no love, and there are a lot of people talking about love without much truth. And let’s not get stuck in guilt. Most good things begin with a little guilt, but they never end there.", [The Irresistible Revolution]

"I am one voice among the chorus that creates the harmony of our movement.", [The Irresistible Revolution]

We read about people who make a huge impact and are extraordinary and we want to be like that but we expect it to fall in our laps and just happen if it was meant to be. We cant expect change to happen on its own and this quote from a speech says it best.

some of us may be little men, some may be big but whether we are small men or big, for the moment we represent a great cause and

therefore something of the shadow of greatness falls upon us. Today in this Assembly we represent a mighty cause and this Resolution

that I have placed before you give some semblance of that cause. [P360 Independence and After: A Collection of Speeches, 1946-1949

 By Jawaharlal Nehru]
